Alvar de Dios

Toro is long overdue for a breath of fresh air — or fresh wine in the case of Alvar de Dios. The appellation in northwest Spain is known for its bold, leather-clad wines, reminiscent of the over-the-top looks from the 80’s. Alvar is making sure to change that by exploring different terroirs, blends, and by approaching winemaking in a much more delicate way than we’re accustomed to see from the region.

Hailing from the winemaking village of El Pego, Alvar set out on a quest to learn and perfect his craft beyond his hometown, Sierra de Gredos, etc. Embracing organic and biodynamic practices, he defies tradition, crafting ultra-fresh, nuanced, and ethereal creations.

With vineyards in both Toro and the Gredos mountains, Alvar discovered the captivating terroir of Arribes, reminiscent of Gredos with its high-altitude soils infused with granitic sand and expressive indigenous grapes.

His wines exude the same refreshing spirit as his full karaoke performances—a true force to be reckoned with in the wine world.
