Lagar de Pedregales

Lagar Pedregales is a charming small family-run farm in the Rías Baixas DO. Its roots go back to 1991, when Mario Guerreiro Carnero started planting Albariño vines with the bright idea of one day producing the best wine in the region.

It was clear to Mario from the beginning the quality factors, without which it was pointless to even start. The first imperative was to limit the harvest. In those days, it was a radical idea, while the local aspiration was rather the opposite. He also wanted to make 100% Albariño, while traditionally – and still does – typically produce a blend of Albariño, Loureira and Caíño Blanco grapes. And Mario really knew what he was doing: the first of many quality awards to come was won by his wine in 1998. It was amazingly soon after the first seedlings were planted.

Mario has already fallen asleep, but his work is continued with the same admirable uncompromisingness by his granddaughter Alba Martínez Guerreiro, who, despite her young age, is already an experienced winemaker. Even today, all the grapes used by Lagar Pedregales come from their own orchards. Traditional methods are still the basis of everything, but of course enhanced with modern technology.
