Thenard

The Domaine was founded in the mid-19th Century, although the family reputedly had vineyard holdings dating back to the previous century, saying,it dates back in the 12th century by Cistercian monks from the Abbey of La Ferté.

Until the earl 2000s, Baron Thénard had strong ties with the Burgundian négociant house, Remoissenet, which bottled much of its production.

Although based in Givry, Thenard is the second largest land holder of Montrachet GRAND CRU (the number ONE most sought after White wine terroir in the world)and is the largest holder on the Chassagne 1er Cru. The domaine also has holdings in Grands-Echezeaux and in Corton and Pernand-Vergelesses. It is also a major producer of Givry wines.

Jean-Baptiste Bordeaux-Montrieux has been running the domaine from the 1980’s and the wines have always been made in a very traditional method. It is Certified organic in 2016, practicing biodynamic. Now, the Domaine bottles much of its wines under its own label, although it has sold some portions of its production to other négociants in Burgundy.
