Vega Sicilia

Vega Sicilia is considered one of the oldest, most prestigious Spanish bodegas. Also one of those wines that everyone knows and that very few have tasted.

Vega Sicilia was founded in 1842 in Ribera del Duero. While in the early days the wines were even given away to aristocrat friends and members of the royal family, which meant that Vega Sicilia quickly gained an excellent reputation for its excellent qualities.

After the Alvárez family took over the winery in 1982, they invested heavily in modernizing the cellar and expanding the vineyards, making Vega Sicilia synonymous with top-class Spanish wines in the decades that followed.

Today, Vega Sicilia owns almost 1000ha of land, of which only about 250ha are planted with vines. The wines consist of at least 80% Tempranillo and small amounts of Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. So far, Vega Sicilia has steadfastly resisted all fashions and stuck to the classic and traditional style of the wines; with years of barrel aging and an enormous lifespan. The consistency and the timeless classic of the wines are the greatest trump card of Bodega Vega Sicilia.
